Calderbank Country Lodge is a small fully licensed
Hotel and Restaurant in the picturesque hamlet of Oakenclough. Surrounded
by open countryside, it offers a quiet retreat from everyday life.
The property was built in the late 1800’s
next to the Oakenclough Paper Mill which was owned by John Jackson.
The Jackson family lived in Calderbank for over 100 years. When
it was purchased after some years lying empty, the new owner opened
part of the building as a hotel and restaurant.
The new owners, Rowland and Lesley Hayward, have
considerable experience in the hotel industry, having owned two
hotels in Blackpool an won various hositality awards throughout
the North West.
They
offer excellent traditional, home cooked local produce in a comfortable
and stylish restaurant, which normally seats 30 people but can accommodate
40 if required for private parties. The restaurant can also be booked
for small meetings when facilities such as flip charts and OHP and
screen are available.
The bar has a full “on licence” allowing
travellers and locals alike to call in for liquid refreshment if
food is not a priority.
The three hotel rooms will be totally refurbished
over the winter period to offer guests a high standard of quality.
All the rooms will have excellent views and with the advantage of
allowing visitors a central point to walk, cycle or drive around
this beautiful area of Lancashire.
As
part of its refurbishment, Calderbank Country Lodge is now equipped
with many environmentally friendly features and a management system
that aims to minimise the business' impact upon the local environment.
In May 2005, it became the first tourist venue in Lancashire to
win a Green
Tourism Award for sustainability.
Further details, including menus, a location map,
useful local links and information about Oakenclough and the surrounding
area, can all be found on the Calderbank
Country Lodge website.
