Bowland
Forest Gliding Club is situated at the Southern tip of the Forest
of Bowland and operates every Saturday, Sunday, Wednesday and Friday
throughout the year, weather permitting.
The club seeks to introduce people to the sport
of gliding and new visitors are welcome to make contact to arrange
an inexpensive trial lesson. For new would-be pilots, the club has
four 2-seater trainers as well as four single seaters and 30+ privately
owned aircraft.
The
club provides training to the highest standard and is committed
to the development of solo flying from the club. Every year, more
pilots enjoy the thrill of flying cross-country and club records
are continually being broken.
Parlick and the Bowland Fells were chosen as the
location for the club as they create ideal conditions for soaring
in most wind directions, and they provide an idyllic backdrop for
pleasure flights.
Bowland
Forest Gliding Club has owned its present 56 acre site since 1973,
having previously operated from Squires Gate in Blackpool and Samlesbury
Airfield.
It continues to invest in its facilities and the
club is now viewed as an important asset by both the British Gliding
Association and the Sports Council, which have assisted with its
development over the years.
The club website
has details of all aircraft, a photo gallery, a newsletter and some
technical pages for the serious gliding enthusiast. There is also
a map of directions, a discussion forum and information about the
club's history.
