Henry Bainbridge and his family run a hill farm, raising Charolais cattle, Swaledale sheep and managing the land according to a time honoured tradition. The farm welcomes visits by schools and other groups, and provides an opportunity for people to learn about an important aspect of the county's farming heritage.

The farm is home to many species of wild bird, as is the surrounding area - much of which was opened to walkers for the first time in September 2004, when the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 granted the public a general right of access for the purposes of outdoor recreation. Henry is well placed to advise visitors about permissive access routes and the best times to see different species, which include the following:

  • Bowland is home to many birds of preystonechat
  • lapwing
  • grouse
  • hen harrier
  • buzzard
  • merlin
  • peregrine
  • meadow pipit
  • skylark
  • and many others.

If you'd like to arrange a visit and would like the benefit of some local knowledge, please call Henry on 01995 603650.
